“I haven’t liked a book series this much since Harry Potter came out. I haven’t hated one as much either.” ~ scizor1

“Suzanne Collins is every bit the sadistic bitch J.K. Rowling was.” ~ thedessie

“You are going to implode emotionally by the time the story is over. It’s awfully awesome.” ~ axolotl15

Those were things said by me and some of my friends while and after reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.Let me give you a brief introduction courtesy of Amazon:

———————————

” In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’s young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.”

———————————

The story is quite engaging and with great pacing. There’s rarely a dull chapter. While it is difficult to relate on a deep level with the characters’ situation, one can sympathize with them. One can’t help it, really. They’re likable characters for the most part and even though their situations are extreme, they feel real. They feel as human as a fictional character can be.

I’m in the process of finishing the third and last book of the series, Mockingjay. I’m 85% in and somehow I don’t see how this story is going to wrap up. It’s both an exciting and worrisome thing.

Down with the Capitol! I’m happy I got many of my friends to read them and so far they’ve all liked them and hated the for pretty much the same reasons. Now I have to convince a certain bombshell to join in the fun.

Why arent you quoting me? T.T

Either way you should be done with those books already! And to be honest I identify myself with Katniss with her love not feeling it thing, unsure about feeling ways…

Enjoy the ending if you can! :p

      I finished it today. *sighs*

The problem with Katniss is not that she doesn’t feel love, it’s that she doesn’t understand it sometimes.

  2. You’re doing great :) Sometimes it’s not how much you write, but just giving some insight as to what’s going on in life. And for you… who is ever so busy, this is a good way for those of us who can’t see you everyday to catch up with you.

As for the Hunger Games. I have not read the series and have not heard about it any further than a few friends mentioning they’ve read them. From their reactions.. I’m not sure I want to read it.

  3. [...] Immortal Instruments series (City of Bones, City of Ashes, and City of Glass) and from there I read The Hunger Games trilogy. Reading became part of my life once [...]
